Welcome back to one our favourite venues, and a very supportive corporate member too. This is an event which Rainbow Wellington hosts monthly and this month our special guest is Green Party MP, Kevin Hague.
The Green Party of Aotearoa officially launched a report which we have been working with them about, How safe our schools are. It's an analysis of the current policy framework aimed at protecting queer young people in New Zealand secondary schools, into the situation queer students face at secondary schools. “The report looks into what the schools are doing to create a safe environment for young queer people in New Zealand,” said Kevin Hague.
Kevin Hague will be joining us at our Rainbow Wellington Drinks for Q&A session, highlighting the results and areas of concern from the recently released report into schools.
This new report has assessed the systems supposed to ensure the safety of queer students in New Zealand high schools, and recommends major urgent changes to protect vulnerable queer youth. Murray and his team drew on Education Review Office reports, and the results of Official Information Act requests and a questionnaire sent to 60 secondary level educational institutions.
The results may shock even you.
We would love it if you could pass this invite on to others in the rainbow advocacy and education sectors, and feel free to bring friends on the day.

This will be the first showcase in Wellington and possibly the only one before the election about the bullying in schools report from the Green Party which was recently launched in Auckland on the 28th of August.
So let’s make it a good turn out again.
