This year is an exciting year for Out in the Park! We will celebrate two major milestones for the queer community in New Zealand in 2016 - the 30th anniversary of the Homosexual Law Reform and the 30th anniversary of the first ever Gay and Lesbian Fair in Wellington.

This year is an exciting year for Out in the Park! We will celebrate two major milestones for the queer community in New Zealand in 2016 - the 30th anniversary of the Homosexual Law Reform and the 30th anniversary of the first ever Gay and Lesbian Fair in Wellington.
Historically the Gay and Lesbian Fair was set up to raise awareness about homosexuality and to build support for Homosexual Law Reform, which was then before the New Zealand Parliament. It has since grown into Wellington's famous queer fair, Out in the Park. Known for its fabulous entertainment, stalls and food, Out in the Park is a wonderful day for all communities to come together and celebrate our diversity in a fun, friendly, and open way.
In 2016 we will go bigger and better: Out in the Park will be held as part of the week-long Wellington Pride Festival I Tū whakahīhī e Te Whanganui-ā-Tara. After last year's success the fair will also be opened by our Wellington Pride Parade 2016. Our committee is working hard to coordinate a week of events and Out in the Park to showcase Wellington's queer and rainbow community - ILGA Oceania Rainbow Human Rights and Health Conference, dance parties, art exhibits, panel discussions, sports days, family events and more are already planned.
Together let's create a festival, parade and fair that will represent all the diversity of our LGBTQI+ communities and will commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Homosexual Law Reform.
