Mission Statement
The Wellington Pride Parade is an inclusive event for all groups, organisations and individuals along the LGBTIQA* spectrum and their supporters. We value and cherish the diversity of our lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, queer, asexual, pansexual, polysexual, non-binary, questioning, genderqueer, genderfluid, aromantic, takatāpui, whakawahine, tangata ira tane, fa’afafine, mahu, vakasalewalewa, palopa, akava’ine, fakaleiti, fiafifine and fakafifine identities and communities as well as everyone in, between or outside this spectrum or with different and without any labels. We acknowledge the history of Pride and how it started, and we want to show Wellington, New Zealand and the world what we have achieved, how far we have come and what is still needed for our generations and those to come. We are paying acknowledgement to our past, our present and our future. The Parade is still a political statement and should be an important symbol for a culture of solidarity, acceptance and equality. We want an event that inspires, educates, commemorates and celebrates our diverse community. We see this Pride Parade as an open space to express ones opinion, message and identity in a non-violent way. There is not one path nor one view – especially in our communities - and we hope people can bring a range of voices to the Wellington Pride Parade 2016.
